[...] Paul Miller of School of Everything (rather than Semantic Web stuff) did a talk split between the ideas of School of Everything which is interesting but that I have heard before and the really quite cool idea of turning Social Innovation Camp into a YCombinator/TechStars style incubator for ‘public service start-ups’ (that was the first time I’d heard that term used as well which I like). It sounds like an ambitious plan but a worthwhile one so I’ll watch that with interest. [...]

[...] The beginning of the evening was a rather civilised affair, with Dan McQuillan and Paul Miller explaining a bit more about SI Camp and what the weekend would involve. There was even time for Paul and I to have a fireside chat (minus the log fire - much to my disappointment : ) about my experience of the first SI Camp and what EbD has been up to since then. Then it was off to the pub to get on with the very important business of meeting new people, talking about the projects and of course having a laugh or two! [...]

[...] If you live near London, do try and watch the film for yourself as soon as you get the chance. There’s a screening due next week, details here. I believe there are a number of other previews planned before general release, and will post the details once I have them. In the meantime, particularly if you don’t live in the UK, there are clips and transcripts available here, with contributions from Clay Shirky (pictured above), Don Tapscott, Paul Miller and Lee Bryant amongst others.
[...] Paul Miller is no Mrs McClusky, which is just as well, for it will be his headship which steers this cracking venture through its first stages and beyond. The basic idea is just plain simple; We’ve all got something which we can teach - and we’ve all got something we want to learn. Why leave teaching to the teachers, if the web has connected us all? When Ebay launched in 1995, the idea that strangers would send stuff off to people they had never met was scoffed at. Today, your next piano teacher could be sitting in the flat next door, right now, fiddling with his Pez Heads. [...]
